PoMo museum Trondheim
Norway
2025

From its initial purpose as a post office to its transformation into a museum, PoMo exudes the essence of emotional comfort—a sense of 'hygge.'

This five-story building (4,000 m²) houses three galleries (1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors), a space dedicated to special projects (basement), and a lounge on the top floor.

The relationship between the building’s spaces has been orchestrated through the lens of hospitality—different from a restaurant and a hotel—while fostering both a sense of intimacy and permeability.

Guided by the 1911 Art Deco structure and the museum’s interstitial spaces, the fuchsia metal entrance door and the museum’s pink ash wood shop echo the famous Norwegian salmon, while the mandarin steel staircase draws inspiration from the colors of the warehouses lining the Nidelva River.

The reading room, ornamented by Gijs Frieling and Job Wouters, draws inspiration from a forgotten Nordic folk art. The lounge, on the top floor, is reminiscent of a domestic space designed to host private dinners and events.
