MATCH POINT
PROJECT ROOM #14
2024

Project Room #14 presents multi-disciplinary artist Harry Nuriev, founder of Crosby Studios.

As an echo to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games taking place in Paris, India Mahdavi invites Harry Nuriev to imagine a ping-pong room : a new setting that expands the Project Room’s continuum of domestic experimentation by revising the idea of play and exercise as a common aspect of being at home.

As a game or as a sport, in private or in public, it is played by all age groups and has a spectacular ability to connect humans. Not only does it convene parameters such as physical activity, leisure and design, but it also triggers childhood memories, infused with raw feelings of joy, fun and competitiveness.

Project Room #14 acts as a modern day parlour and seeks to address table tennis from a spatial and social perspective. On the one hand, it reconnects with the game’s origin by devoting an interior (domestic) space to a physical activity, and on the other, it invites the outside to play on the inside. To manifest this opposition, Nuriev’s bold and effective gesture was to cover the entire room, from the walls down to the table and rackets, in reflective silver surfaces — thus generating a spatial mirroring from interior to exterior, and vice versa.
