HOLY CRAFT
India Mahdavi first noticed Les Crafties back in 2018 – they were finalist candidates showing work within Villa Noailles’ Design Parade festival. India invited the duo to participate in a first exhibition in 2021: a group show titled Feuille d’automne, held in her Project Room #2. Jeanne and Marie-Marie presented Pendeloque, the monumental curtain originally created for the Design Parade – a patchwork in Southern hues, an immense window open to the imagination.
Four years later – after Procraftination, a capsule collaboration –, Holy Craft marks India Mahdavi’s second invitation to Les Crafties. Following a rich journey that brought them into contact with prestigious clients (Hermès, the Boghossian Foundation, Art-o-Rama, la HEAD Genève…), Jeanne and Marie-Marie are now exhibiting a trio of folding screens created especially for Paris Design Week – the first occurence of this object in their textile repertoire. Entirely handmade by Les Crafties in their atelier in Sète, these stretched canvases mounted on frames and assembled into folding screens create an ornamental waltz, a play of interweaving textures, patterns, and details to be contemplated within the Tiny Room.
